More HM Pics and Thoughts

Since the race I have thought of a few more things to share:
1. The best spectator sign I saw read "Run Like You Stole Something"...I LOVED it! I actually laughed out loud.
2. In high school I ran cross country. I knew one of my old teammates would also be running the half and I saw her around mile 9. It was fun to chat for a bit and great to see her!
3. My quads were KILLING me for several days after the race. I finally remembered that miles 8-13 are a gradual downhill. I forgot how killer the downhills can be!
4. I am still a little sensitive about the fact that I don't have a "runner's body". I am working on getting over it. I was so amazed at the starting line to see a TON of others girls without a "runner's body"...it did a lot for my nerves.
5. When I went through a water stop, I always tried to throw my cup off to the side. However, it seems everyone in front of me were content to just drop it right in the middle of the road, leaving us back-of-the-packers to wade through a sea of cups. Is it just me, or is that rude??
6. At mile 11 I almost fell..hard. My foot got stuck in a rut in the road and I ended up lurching forward. I must have had a guardian angel that day, because I somehow recovered without landing flat on my face. A guy watching on the sides gasped when it happened. After I recovered I looked up and said "Wow...that could have been ugly!"
7. And finally...being that it was my first half I actually purchased the race pictures. I plan on framing one...still trying to decide where to put it...total dork, I now. I am the one in the blue hat. Here they are:

That's funny, I love downhill running. Feels like you're flying without effort.

I think the cup thing is pretty normal. I try to throw mine off to the side, but I know I'm not always accurate with my shot. Pretty par for the course.

I don't have a 'runners body' either, but am constantly inspired by those around me without anything close to a runners body and they are kickin' my booty! I'm learning that runners definitely come in all shapes and sizes.

great job on the race! I loved all your photos.

I always feel better seeing people at races that don't have the typical runners body. It is always the judgmental non-runners that give me my insecurities. LOL.

Sarah...Sarah....you know I don't run and so I think you are amazing for doing this. My hat is off to anyone who does marathons and endures hours of training before hand. Bask in the glory of finishing in such wonderful time and for heaven sakes you look great...don't beat yourself up about a "runners body."

Be proud...chin up... look forward and use the water cups as an obstacle that keeps you on your toes, but between you and me, yes, it is rude but then again....remember...I don't run.

I don't have a runner's body either, but even some of the really fast runners I know don't have a typical runner's body.

Nice job on the race!

I love your pics, especially the second to the last one - you look great!

And don't worry about that runner's body thing. I've learned that someone's build gives very little indication as to race performance.

You look great in your race pics..love them!
I don't have a runner's body either, I think there is only a small handful of people with actual runner's bodies. Runners come in all shapes and sizes, that is one of the many reasons I love our sport! Great job on your race!

Great race pictures! I try to throw my cup to the side, but I always worry that if I throw it too far I'm going to hit someone with it. I think it's pretty normal to have cups all over the place in a bigger race.

Great photos...you beat some strong looking runners at the finish! I see you got a comment from an Anonymous who is pushing SPAM, eventually this Anonymous will invade your previous pages too as to slow down your computer...I had to change my settings as to not allow any Anonymous people.

Congrats on you 1/2...looks like you were strong all the way through the race..I also finished my 1/2 and I know what you mean about being so focused on that one race that you wake up a few days later and say, "what now". Well, I signed up for another 1/2 in 4 weeks. I figure I have the same fitness level as I did for my last 1/2 so, why not..wish me luck..

Hi Sarah,
You did awesome! I absolutley love pictures from races:) I feel like pictures help to make a race report. It makes me feel like I am actually there!

Not everyone has a runner's body and that is okay! There are different levels of fitness and sometime's people with the runner's body are not fit or conditioned. I have been passed by people who look like they could hardly make it up a flight a stairs and I have passed people who look like they could do a marathon in 3 hours:) Keep up the awesome work Sarah! You are doing great!

i have always wanted to go running..i missed the running moments way back in high school..im still really completing the running look, still saving for the running shoes, the bluetooth headset ( i dont want wires tangling around while running), and a hefty water bottle :)..i guess that's what i need for my running look

Congratulations! GREAT photos! I thought about running this Half but I didn't think I'd be quite ready so I ran the one yesterday instead! I really wanted to run it because I went to college on Long Island and the course practically went right through Hofstra's campus! There's another Half in October there that I definitely want to run! You should look into it!

Thanks for your sweet comment! We're both HALF MARATHON RUNNERS NOW!!!!
