Gym Top 10

So...I have been a gym member for about a month and am loving it and wishing I had joined sooner. I love the elliptical, the bikes, the pool, the childcare, the weights, the social aspect. But..there are quite a few things that I DON'T love about the gym. I don't know if it is just my gym in particular that has these problems, if I am being too picky, or if others deal with these same issues...would love to have you weigh in!

So...here it is...

Top 10 Things I Don't Love About the Gym
1. The SMELL!! The minute I open the door my nose is assaulted by the smell of people sweating. I understand the gym is not gonna smell like fresh-baked cookies, but the sweat smell has got to go!
2. NAKED LADIES! What is the deal with the older ladies in the locker room who walk around and sit in the hot tub completely naked! As I was leaving the locker room today I was visually assaulted by a large, and I mean large, naked butt!
3. SWEAT! I had no idea that some people sweat so much whilst working out...it literally pours off them. I run on the treadmill in fear of their sweat flinging onto me.
4. Making out with the elliptical. What is up with the people who are all hunched over the machines. I would think they should perhaps set the resistance a bit lower and be able to stand up straight.
5. Dirty Looks. Most of the people are very friendly, but there are plenty of others who are just not. Why are you looking me over as I run? Do I have toilet paper stuck to me shoe??
6. Front Desk Girls....they are just so not friendly. It is as if I should be so grateful that they have allowed me to enter their gym.
7. There is a sign near the water fountain that says "No expectorating in the water fountain". EWWW!!!
8. The guys who insist on banging the weights down on their last rep...it scares the bejesus out of me every time. And I am not impressed...it means you can't control the weight and shouldn't be lifting it.
9. I am out of ideas.....
10. THE NAKED LADIES!

The naked ladies would be VERY SCARY! And there is something about being naked in the spa that grosses me out. Not like a swim suit is protective or anything.

I am with you on many of your items on the list.
1) The sweat - I usually go early in the morning when they are open so it is still fresh and has a bleachy kinda smell. I take bleach over sweat. Or go late at night, a few hours after the peak hours.
2) I dislike the clanging/slamming weights too! I can take the grunting for the most part. But I can't take the grunting.
3) I absolutely dislike people who talks LOUDLY on their cell phone or to their friends. By loudly, I mean so loud that I have to turn the volume up on my earphones to buffer their conversation and deafen myself in the process. I also dislike it when they sprinkle a bunch of profanities.

Naked ladies - haha. Gotto love them. Modesty is what is missing.

It has been forever since I have gone to a gym because I live in the sticks, but I remember all of those things as super annoying. Especially naked ladies. Gross.

I'm so not a gym person. And, you're right, the naked ladies are super scary.

LOL!!
I think they spray some kind of plastic smell at my gym - and i'm the only one that gets changed not in the changing room - so i'm the only Naked Lady LOL

Naked ladies in the hot tub is very odd to me. I'm not sure how much of a difference the swimsuit makes in reality, but in theory it makes me feel better about getting in after them.

Funny stuff!

I used to be in the military and spent a great deal of time in the gym training people. Nothing worse than 18 year old lonely boys staring you DOWN on the treadmill... I probably should have worn more clothes now that I think about it... lol.
Have you been "bumped" by the old women yet?!

HAHAHA, no you are not alone. That is pretty typical in any gym I've been in.

I think as people get older their modesty goes completely out the door. Somehow it should be the other way around. Frankly I don't ever see myself as one of the old naked ladies ... but never say never. ;)

Sarah,

The Clayworks was so fun and I would definitely suggest anyone trying the potter's wheel. Like you, I had only done ceramics with the painting but this is addictive and they told us it is. I would love to go to some classes. The hand form pottery is harder than it looks to make something reasonably good...I prefer the wheel. If you find some place close by go and try it at least once. I think all of us bloggers had a great time. We all said we'd like to come back.

Hi Sarah,
You are pretty funny!! Ha ha, I can relate to basically all of those things that you listed! No kidding, what is with the naked old ladies sitting in the hot tub? I see that at my gym too!

Have fun at the club...just keep a smile on your face and kill those crabby people with kindness:) Happy weekend!!

Ugh. . .I remember the naked ladies at the gym when I was a member once a upon a time. One of those naked and nasty butts belonged to my sister.

The smell and heaving as well as grunting did not favor to well with me either lol so back in those times, thank god for walkmans!!

I hate the naked ladies too. And its not the good-bodied-good-looking ladies that prance around naked. Its the 60+, large-and-in-charge type. I just cant handle it.

Gna just share my views from top to bottom as I see them.
I feel this is a good simply because it’s consistent with how the user is used to seeing the comment form and filling out information in general. Filling out the name and email wont take me much time, and if you really wanted to go ahead and type the comment first, you can do so, not really that big of a work around. I’m .

LOL! I am with you...especially with the sweat, humidity and the naked ladies. And the naked ladies cannot be stressed enough. They are so comfortable in their nakedness, I feel if there is no law against it, they might walk out of the gym naked!

I've been going to the same gym for over 22 years! Man, am I set in my ways or what. Some of the things you mention, I have never had a problem with while others I can totally relate. We have friendly front ladies and super friendly guys. My couple of pet peaves is this one guy that talks about football constantly and is so loud about it. Shut up already! Nobody cares. And another guy who is constantly telling me (and other women, never men) how to do the weight machines. If I wanted a personal trainer I would get one. Leave me alone! We don't have any naked ladies either, but where my hubby works out (different place) there are naked guys all the time and it drives him crazy. Especially the ones with piercings in places they shouldn't be.

definitely the naked ladies, and the meatheads that take over the weights section!
